This initiative, led by Compassion International Togo and placed under the patronage of the Ministries of Environment and Agriculture, aims to bring together all the actors for a synergy of actions in favor of the environment and the fight against climate change in Togo.
The information was brought to the attention of the public on Tuesday, August 08, 2023 by the first officials of the national office of this NGO during a press conference held at their headquarters in Lomé.

“The Fair and Conference on Environmental Management and Protection of Creation is intended to be an event aimed at sensitizing and mobilizing the leaders of the Partner Churches, the actors of the Child and Youth Development Centers, as well as children and young people themselves, in addition to Compassion International staff. This event is also aimed at other actors, such as NGOs and structures working in environmental management and the protection of creation. The objective is to make them aware of the effects of climate change on the development of children and their role in the protection of creation”, suggested Olivier Koffi AHONON, National Director of Compassion International Togo.

This first fair of Compassion International Togo aims to welcome at least 7 thousand visitors.

The ambition of this NGO by organizing such an event, which will bring together decision-makers, private sector actors and civil society organizations, is to lay the foundations for a better future for children and young people who are at risk of suffering the serious consequences of climate change in the future if no action is taken.

“Unfortunately, climate change, with its corollaries, has a direct impact on the lives of many beneficiaries, not least because most of them come from families that depend on agriculture and related activities. Contemporary statistics on the effects of climate change speak for themselves: a child born today is exposed to an average of 30 extreme heat waves in their lifetime, seven times more than someone born in 1960 would have experienced. Today’s babies will also grow up in a world where droughts and forest fires will be twice as frequent, while floods and crop failures will be three times more frequent than for a 60-year-old person today”, deplores the NGO, which takes care of 78,000 children and young people in Togo.

Participants are invited to register on the https://foireconferencegepc.org platform to facilitate the formalities for accessing the site of this meeting dedicated to the environment and the protection of creation.
