©AfreePress-(Lomé, february, 29, 2024)-On March 1, 2024, the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, will launch the program of weekly press briefings of the sub-regional organization. On this occasion, he will deliver a speech focused on the beginning of a new era of transparency and media engagement within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
In his speech, copies of which have been obtained by the AfreePress news agency, President Touray will emphasize the importance of this initiative in the efforts to provide credible and consistent information about the activities of the ECOWAS Commission. He will express his gratitude to the media for their support while acknowledging the existence of a gap in the dissemination of information about the numerous community programs of ECOWAS.
President Touray will also address recent political developments and challenges facing the region, emphasizing the importance of not letting these events overshadow the significant achievements of the Community since its establishment in 1975. He will also reiterate the fundamental objectives of ECOWAS in terms of socio-economic development through regional integration.
Through this new initiative, the ECOWAS Commission is committed to regularly informing the media about the activities of the Organization in various areas such as trade and free movement, infrastructure, energy, peace and security, democracy and justice, food security, health, among others.
President Touray will conclude the first edition of the organization’s press briefings by inviting the media to actively participate in this initiative, in the hope that it will strengthen the relationship between ECOWAS and the media and contribute to bridging the gap in the dissemination of information about the region’s many achievements. He will also highlight the importance of this initiative in the fight against misinformation and in promoting the economic and political development efforts of ECOWAS member countries.
