This Christian NGO concretized its commitment, Thursday February 29, 2024, through a partnership agreement signed with the Ministry of Sports and Leisure.
The documents of this agreement were initialed by the Minister in charge of Sports, Dr Lidi BESSI KAMA, and the National Director of Compassion International, Olivier Koffi AHONON.
Through this partnership, the two institutions are committed to collaborating and pooling their efforts to promote the practice of sports among children and young people, in particular the beneficiaries of the NGO Compassion.
“Through this agreement, we have committed to each other on issues related to the promotion and development of sport for the children and young people included in our program. We will also, with the minister, be available to support us on a technical level, by providing technical support in order to be able to carry out a certain number of projects that we have. We already have young people taking part in competitions and school championships throughout the country. We are also committed to putting in place infrastructures that will allow us to support these talented young people in different disciplines,” suggested the National Director of Compassion International Togo.
The agreement signed for a period of 3 years, is intended to be a framework of cooperation allowing Compassion International Togo to benefit from the support of experts and technicians from the ministry responsible for sports and leisure to develop sports disciplines in sports complexes currently under construction. construction throughout the national territory. As a state institution, the success of the sports development project carried out by Compassion International Togo will enable the ministry to achieve its objectives.
“The ministry’s mission is to support the development of sport throughout the country, and the activities that Compassion carries out for the 80,000 children and young people included in its program contribute to the priority that the government has set for itself. We know that sport is a vector of development, so the ministry, in view of the activities that we are going to do together, wins in terms of achieving objectives in the sport and leisure aspect,” the National Director told AfreePress. of Compassion International Togo.

The Minister in charge of Sports congratulated the NGO for its commitment to the holistic development of children and young people in Togo.
For Dr Lidi BESSI KAMA, the partnership between her department and Compassion International Togo is a convergence of vision to further strengthen social cohesion and living together, values of sport.
“By engaging in the promotion of sports, Compassion International Togo fully embraces the government’s policy which continues to make sport not only a vector of peace, living together and social cohesion, but also a wealth-creating sector; and employment provider, in accordance with the vision of the President of the Republic, His Excellency, Mr. Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé,” she declared.
It should be noted that Compassion International Togo’s first sports complex, which construction work is in progress, is located in Dzagblé in the commune of Zio (15 km northeast of Lomé). Built on an area of 1.4 hectares, the complex will have infrastructure for football, basketball, volleyball, swimming, tennis and many other disciplines.
Present in Togo since 2008, the NGO Compassion International currently has more than 80,000 children and youth registered in its support program.
