Lomé, February 24, 2025 (©AfreePress) – Since Monday, February 24, 2025, Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, has been hosting a crucial meeting aimed at bolstering the crisis response capabilities of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in the face of escalating security challenges across the region.
Until February 28, 2025, high-level experts from member states are gathered to validate strategic policies designed to enhance the operational effectiveness of the ECOWAS Standby Force. The ambitious goal of this summit is to ensure faster deployment capabilities, optimize operational logistics, and improve coordination of peacekeeping initiatives across West Africa.
Speaking on behalf of the ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security, Dr. Adamu Mohammed Sani emphasized during the opening session that “only a robust logistics framework will enable a prompt and appropriate response to crisis situations.”
Chairing the proceedings, Air Commander Sampson Eyekosi stressed the need for a reinforced coordination strategy and greater autonomy in the execution of peacekeeping missions.
This meeting goes beyond theoretical discussions. It holds the future of security and stability for millions of West African citizens in the balance.
